Your trucks Allison transmission randomly going into limp mode or neutral? There is a chance its because of an invalid speed input from your transfer case speed sensor. On trucks with badly worn transfer cases its not uncommon for this speed sensor to collide with the tone ring. This collision will damage both the speed sensor and the tone ring. Speed sensor faults are often related to gear ratio range codes.
If your sensor shows sign of impact, you may need to replace the tone ring on the mainshaft. DHD 100-401997A.
